The Arena Football Christmas

The Holidays Made Arena Football Interesting

Welcome to the End of the year Holiday Edition of Arena Football. It’s been an interesting week and some of the questions we had last week were answered. What is happening in the American Arena League, National Arena League and the Arena Football League.

Who’s Ready for Some FOOTBALL?

To start off, the Tampa Bay Storm called 2018 Quits the other day. Steve Griggs, Chief Executive Officer of Tampa Bay Sports and Entertainment announced that the team “will not operate a franchise in 2018”. Rising League costs and reduced League revenues forced the organization to re-evaluate the team’s financial situation and its continued operation in a shrinking AFL. This should be the nail that in the coffin of the AFL, and the blame is on  Scott Butera shoulders.

Butera, a prominent entertainment and hospitality executive who is best known for being the C.E.O. at various casinos in the United States is currently the commissioner of the AFL. Since taking office in 2015 has run the league into the ground, forcing league standouts Jacksonville Sharks, Orlando Predators,  New Orleans VooDoo and Las Vegas Outlaws to leave. The League now down to 4 teams, seems to be headed to the football Void.

The American Arena league has been busy flexing its muscles in recent days. They are loaded with Teams now, and with the AFL drowning, there are some high quality players to be taken.

The battle for Georgia is going to be a rivalry that needs to be watched. The Georgia Doom and the Atlanta Havoc have had quiet a busy week.  The Havoc started off picking up  DB Thyrell Lewis, and them moving to grab former NFL DB Ellis Lankster.  Lankster began his professional career at the Buffalo Bills in 2009. Lankster spent 3 years with the New York Jets, and will be a dominate corner in the AAL. They finished up the week picking up Jacksonville Shark fan favorite DB Micheaux Robinson. Robinson, known as the pit bull will terrorize the AAL. Rumor has it that the Havoc will also sign AFL and NAL Legend WR Joe “Superman” Hills for the 2018 season.

Christian Wise returns back to Georgia where from his days as a CAU Panther to his pro career which he’s played from 2008 in the AF2 for the South Georgia Wildcats as he is now signed with the Georgia Doom. Wise will join Dommie Pittman and WR LJ Castile and DB Derek Patterson on a very strong Doom Team.

The National Arena League is chugging along after releasing the 2018 schedule this week. The Massachusetts Pirates were busy this week as they signed John Griggs, Nick Haag, Shawn Loiseau, Troy Sanders II, Imarjaye Albury, John Hardy-Tuliau and Pasquale Vacchio to the team. The Maine Mammoths picked up Maurice Dupree, Shaq Wallen and Edgar Poe Jr.

Now Santa is going thru his list of names to see who was naughty and who was nice… and there are some really big names out there and maybe there will be one more announcement before Christmas!

Have a Great Holiday and We will see you on the 25!
