National Arena League Expands Again
The National Arena League is expected to announce that Portland, Maine will be the next city to host a team for the 2018 NAL Season. The Maine Mammoths will play at the Cross Insurance Arena for 2018. A press conference is scheduled for Tuesday at 1pm.
NAL officials were in Worcester last month to announce the newly formed Massachusetts Pirates. “We’re on the verge of some great things,” NAL Commissioner Chris Siegfried said during a news conference streamed on the league’s Facebook page. “We’re not going to announce them tonight, but there’s going to be some close rivalries nearby (to Worcester). “We’ve got seven teams right now locked and loaded. Not all of them have been announced, but they all have solid ownership and we’re very excited about it.”
Portland would be one of at least seven franchises scheduled to play in the NAL next year. The others include three holdovers from the 2017 season – the Jacksonville (Florida) Sharks, Columbus (Georgia) Lions and Lehigh Valley (Pennsylvania) Steelhawks – along with expansion franchises in Trenton, New Jersey (Sharks), Worcester, Massachusetts (Pirates), and Greensboro, North Carolina. No word on if the NAL franchise in Mexico (the Monterrey Steel) will be able to recover from earthquake damage in time to play in 2018.
The NAL, under the leadership of Chris Siegfried is working to reunite the fans of Portland to Arena Football. LockedIN Magazine is Ready!
