National Arena League Announces Expansion
The National Arena League is growing. The Massachusetts Pirates, a new arena league football team was announced today to play at Worcester’s DCU Center. Massachusetts Pirates president Jawad Yatim was joined at a press conference today by Worcester Mayor Joseph Petty.
“This is a Bay State team. This is a Massachusetts team,” Yatim said.
There has been arena football at the DCU Center in the past. The New England Surge played at the DCU Center in 2007-2008.
The National Arena League will have seven teams when the season starts.
“We are in the second year of something absolutely outstanding,” said Chris Siegfried, the NAL Commissioner. “It’s an unbelievable game. It’s just a fast, exciting game.”
There are future press conferences scheduled in Greensboro, North Carolina and Portland, Maine to announce other expansion teams, the league said. The National Arena League began in 2016 and played its first season in 2017.
