Joe “Superman” Hills Names Wide Receiver Of the Year
Look Up In the Sky.. it’s a Bird. A Plane. It’s Superman Joe Hills! And Today the Arena Football League Announced that Hills is the AFL Wide Receiver of the Year.
Hills (6-foot-4, 220 lbs., Tennessee State) who entered his sixth season in the Arena Football League had another outstanding year at wide receiver. A native of Palmetto, Hills returned to the Storm after spending the 2015 and 2016 seasons with the Jacksonville Sharks.
He began his AFL career with the Storm when he joined the team late in the 2012 season. Hills would spend the 2013 and 2014 seasons with the Storm, breaking numerous records. It was during the 2012 season when he began his current streak of consecutive regular season games played with a receiving touchdown.
On July 8th, during a game versus the Baltimore Brigade, Hills would break Damian Harrell’s 10-year old AFL record of 78 consecutive games with a receiving touchdown. Hills finished the season at 81 consecutive games.
A five-year veteran, Hills would also find himself in the top-10 of several categories. One of the most explosive receivers in the AFL, Hills led the League in receptions per game (9.9), receptions (129), receiving yards (1,353), and receiving touchdowns (36).
The 2017 season saw Hills climb the Storm record books. He currently ranks in the top-five of many franchise categories including: career receiving yards (5,194), career receiving touchdowns (129), and career receptions (129). His 228 points and 37 touchdowns scored are tied with Tyrone Timmons for third most in Storm single-season history. Hills now holds the top-three season performances in Storm history in receiving touchdowns (42-2013; 38-2014; 37-2017) and points scored (262-2013; 232-2014; 228-2017).
Joe Hills has now become the first back-to-back winner and first two-time winner of the Wide Receiver of the Year Award.
