Jason Boltus comes out of retirement to join Jacksonville
The Jacksonville Sharks have announced today that they have signed quarterback Jason Boltus.
Jason Boltus (6’3”, 220) will join the 2017 roster after previously going into retirement after his time with the Tampa Bay Storm in 2016. After retiring from the Arena Football League, Boltus went on to become the Head Coach for the Ocoee Knights and led them to a state championship in 2017.
Prior to coaching, Boltus led the AFL in passing yards in 2015 and set multiple franchise single-season records. He finished his first season with the Storm as the team’s single-season leader in pass attempts (714), tied for first in pass completion (408), second in passing yardage (5,025) and passing touchdowns (98).
“We are extremely excited to sign one of the best in the business at his position, stated Sharks Head Coach Siaha Burley. To add this kind of veteran depth at QB going into the playoffs was a must for our organization. We are lucky to have him.”
He began his AFL career in 2012 with the Spokane Shock. He also went to spend time with the Utah Blaze (2013) and the Orlando Predators (2014). For his career, Boltus started in 31-of-47 games, and completed 955-of-1,659 pass attempts for 11,834 yards and 225 touchdowns. He began his professional career in the Canadian Football League with the Hamilton Tiger Cats in 2009 after being undrafted in the 2009 NFL Draft.
Boltus began his collegiate career at the University at Albany, SUNY and was red-shirted as a true freshman. He then transferred to Hartwick College. During his rookie season, he won E8 Rookie of the Year, ECAC D-III Northwest Rookie of the Year in 2005. Boltus then went on to win multiple awards and honors during his collegiate career – in 2007 he won the E8 Offensive Player of the Year, the Melberger Award as the nation’s top NCAA Division III player after he led the NCAA D-III in career total offense (14,231).
