League Recognizes Offense, Defense, and Special Teams Standouts
The National Arena League announced the league’s recipients of the Week Ten Players of the Week. The league had three outstanding contests from this past weekend, and from those games the following winners for Offensive, Defensive, and Special Teams Players of the Week were selected:
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
QB Warren Smith Jr (QB, Lehigh Valley Steelhawks)
The Steelhawks signal caller has his sights on the bigger prize, and that’s getting his team a ring. He helped his squad take the first necessary step by clinching them a playoff berth this past weekend in a 56-28 victory over the High Country Grizzlies, improving the ‘Hawks record to 7-1. The MVP candidate took home his third Player of the Week honor by completing 17 of 25 passes for 184 yards, and six touchdowns. He also added 10 rushing yards on the night.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Logan Ingle (DL, Columbus Lions)
Having the fan support behind you can often give standout players that extra edge in a contest. The Lions anchor on its Defensive Line was clearly amped up playing in front of a record crowd inside the Columbus Civic Center. In his teams shutout victory, Ingle recorded three sacks, forced three fumbles, and had 4.5 tackles for loss. The dominating performance was one of the single best defensive games by any individual on the season.
SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Nick Belcher (K, Jacksonville Sharks)
No surprise who gets the nod for Special Teams Player of the Week once again. It has become almost common for the Jacksonville Sharks Kicker to see his name in the Weekly Awards. Belcher was instrumental in his teams 42-13 win over the Monterrey Steel, keeping the Sharks undefeated on the year. Belcher nailed a field goal to open up the scoring, then proceeded to hit two deuces, and convert on all of his extra point attempts.
Week Eleven in the NAL features three games as the Columbus Lions head to the High Country to face the Grizzlies, and the Firebirds welcome the Steel to Georgia. Both games will be played on Saturday, May 27th at 7pm. In the weekend finale, the Jacksonville Sharks will travel to Texas to battle the Rage in a 7pm CST contest on Sunday, May 28th.
